I love making lists. I will spend more time making a list than the actual task. I’ve been known to write “make new to-do list” on a to-do list. I’ll re-write it until it looks pretty and organize and cross everything off carefully so I feel really good about how much I’ve done.
My Countdown to A2 To-Do List:
pre-register at hospitalget newborn clothes down from atticwash/organize/make fit in the girls’ room- clean baby car seat and have ready for go-time
set up A2 with EB’s pediatrician- make baby blanket
- make belly cast
- pack hospital bag
This weekend was filled with several things: my sinus infection decided to rage harder and stronger than ever before, we got some things knocked off the baby list so I don’t have any more nesting nightmares, and EB is now in love with Pee Wee’s Playhouse. I feel like my job as a parent is now complete with that last one. She asks for Pee Wee more than Yo Gabba Gabba! Um, YES. She just told me a knock-knock joke, is making Pee Wee noises, and says “Miss Yvonne” when she comes on screen. It’s almost enough to make me forget my sinuses are punching me in the face and my ear is now squeaking when I blow my nose.
Here’s what we have done so far to the list and I’m feeling better emotionally, if not physically.
Done and Done:
- I filled out the pre-reg at the hospital over the internet. Maybe it will actually go into the system this time because last time we had to do it during go-time even though I filled out the paperwork twice.
- Sweet Hubs. And thank goodness for the rain to cool things down. He got down the newborn and 0-3 month stuff without making me climb the ladder and fit through the tiny hole on the side of the house. PS, we blocked off our in-house attic entrance when we remodeled our bathroom. It seemed reasonable at the time.
- I hate laundry. I don’t mind sticking it in the washer and dryer, but I hatehatehate folding clothes and putting them away. I feel like I’m going crazy with its endless nature. However, it was all so cute! And small! And I remembered all the crap that EB used to wear and I got all excited about A2 rocking the onesies and footie PJ’s. And somehow, somehow, I organized the dresser and wardrobe so that both girls have clothes space. This has been killing me wondering how I’d make it work.
- Doing it today. It’s in the wash. Another load! It really is endless.
- Apparently I just do this at the hospital. DER. I remember calling for EB when I was sick looking for a doctor for myself last time, but I was so delirious that I found myself a pediatrician. Oh, well. I got this done and I’m marking it off, dammit.
- I have every intention of doing it this week. The fabric is burning a hole on my dresser and I have to do it while EB is at school. So Thursday or Friday? I’ll do a post on making baby blankets again.
- I waited to do this a day after EB’s due date so I am nervous about waiting too long, but I want to make the cast when I’m as big as possible. Hmmmm.
- Gotta get on this one. How soon is too soon to pack the bag? What if I need that crap in the remaining month? I guess I can put a few things in there like nursing bras. Don’t need those yet.
But mostly I’m napping and EB and Daddy are getting quality time together. I hate feeling crappy, and toddlers don’t understand mommy nap time that doesn’t coincide with their nap time. How did she start to feel better before me? Don’t I have a more sophisticated immune system than her? I’m trying to get a doctor’s appointment, too. That’s on a different list.
TCOB-ing Jells.
UPDATE: For all my Pee Wee fans out there, check these blurry iPhone pics out. Hubs’ old friend Bulldog has an original Pee Wee’s Playhouse set, including all of the dolls. And he let EB play with them way before her current appreciation for the show.

Only one month left??? Where has the time gone?
I KNOW!!!
Well, if I ever doubted that you were raising EB right (which I never did), all my doubts would now be tossed aside due to that picture of her and the Pee Wee DVD. Love.
I think it’s in the parenting handbook somewhere that kids must be shown the greatness that is Pee Wee.
I need to find it – the picture of Em and my copy of Pee Wee’s Big Adventure. Pee Wee + Toddlers = AWESOME
Big Adventure is GREAT. And you know us Texans love that joke about the basement in the Alamo and when Pee Wee sings, “The stars at night, are big and bright…”
Only to be finished by the surrounding Texans, “Deep in the heart of Texas!”
wow time flies!
I can’t even believe that I will have another human child on or around Sept. 20th! It’s going to get real up in here!
your a super fast baby grower! my sons birthday is the 18th sept!
How fun! Was he a New Year’s Eve baby, too?
no, we had a massive row new years eve, almost split up! i think i was already pregnant, i found out in january but he was born 2 weeks early
Well I’m glad it worked out!
yes me too! but we didnt stay together for the baby we worked it out before we found out
That is the best story ever. Working it out for you two is the real reason to stay together. And your son only benefits from it!
Everyone has a sinus infection this week! I never get sick and even I’m popping pills and cough drops non-stop. Remember to take your vitamins, say your prayers, and save the whales. You will get better.
Even with a month to go you seem to be in a pretty good position to get it all done. Oh boy I still can’t wait until I find out you’re naming the kid after me
I’m so bad about taking meds while sick. The worst at it, actually. The only reason I called the dr today was because Hubs was up in my business about it. And then picked up the z-pack. And brought me a drink to swallow the pills.
And you’re funny.
Lily LOVED Pee Wee! Good for Eebs! Will her cuteness never cease? Honestly, she is such a gem of a gal. Love her.
You are ONLY organized, Jells. No worries. Just get yourself feeling 100%. Hopefully you’ll lose the nasty sinus infection real soon.
I feel like A2 could come so early but I think the achey body is from illness. but just in case, I want to be ready! Even if it’s making me achey because I’m doing too much. Story of my life.
Pee Wee!!!! Holy crap. That is the most awesome thing I have heard all week. I know it’s only Monday, but I’m sure it can’t be topped. And the play set?! I’m jealous. Pee Wee’s Big Adventure is playing at the outdoor movie series near our house next month and I cannot wait to take my kids and introduce them to it.
HELLS YEAH I got the awesome thing of the week award! Nothing can top Pee Wee love, I’m sure of it. And I’m so jealous of my friend’s playhouse set and I might just call him to play with it some more. It’s a good thing he’s funny and loves EB enough to touch the dang thing. Go see Big Adventure on the big screen! I would die of happiness if that was happening near me.
I can’t believe you only have a month left! I love love love that EB gets a kick out of Pee Wee. This post made my day! Pee Wee’s Big Adventure is by far one of my favorite movies and I still remember being seven, learning how to make pancakes on saturday morning and then sitting down with that plateful of pancakes to watch Pee Wee’s Playhouse.
I love that there are so many PW fans out there! Your story is so sweet. I could watch Big Adventure over and over again.
To do lists are pretty awesome! So is the Pee Wee’s playhouse.
I agree on both counts!
Wow. One little month left and they will be two. Are you ever organized! EB is getting cuter with each post.
Holy cats! Even with a sinus infection, you’re getting all sorts of stuff done!
Rock on JJ!
Just imagine what I WOULD be doing if I didn’t have one? Probably sleeping.
